Broker & Consultant: Program Utilization -- We Encourage It!


Claremont consistently has high Employee Assistance and Organizational Intervention utilization. Our groups average 8-10% utilization, which is 2 times greater than what is typical for the industry as a whole. We are proud of this statistic and feel that it reflects well-run and well-publicized Employee Assistance Programs. We achieve this utilization level through sustained publicity campaigns, which includes training for managers, employee orientations, brochures, wallet cards, posters, memos, quarterly newsletters, and a website. Claremont makes every effort to assure that all employees and their family members are aware of services available under the EAP. We work creatively with each group to develop a customized approach for program publicity (e.g. website, company newsletter, e-mail, etc.).

It is Claremont's belief that, in addition to the above publicity efforts, our programs are highly utilized because individuals accessing the program have positive experiences. This has led to many "word of mouth" recommendations among the employee/supervisor/labor populations.

Claremont does not use utilization review to "manage" counseling visits. Claremont clients are authorized for the EAP visits that are indicated under their plan. We do quality management to ensure that the visits are useful and clinically effective.

We believe the high level of program utilization that we are able to achieve benefits our customers through improved workplace productivity and increased retention of valuable employees. These benefits are perceived through improved employee morale and performance and an increase in the bottom line.
